The Triple Goddess

The feminine is a divine dance of the cosmos and the triskele or the spiral of life that cradles the secret mysteries and the ever turning cycles of life, death/transformation and birth/rebirth within her temple. She weaves the realms of the heavens, earth and the underworld.

She embodies all aspects of the triple Goddess simultaneously; Maiden, Mother and Crone. The Triple Goddess is the phases of the moon and seen to be the feminine counterpart to the Horned God. She cycles throughout the stages of life, every menstrual cycle, every moon cycle, changing seasons and she reflects the complexities of the human psyche and inner qualities. She teaches us how to live in balance and a deep, wild and intuitive embodied life path.

These sacred archetypal feminine energies are defined by a woman’s relationship to herself, her own experiences and can be embodied in an ebb and flow dance with the freedom to stand alone in their own power or work together at any time for personal growth and healing regardless of her chronological age, but ageless spirit.

A woman's menstrual cycle mirrors the sacred rhythm of nature and the moon. She is the waxing, full and waning moon that correlates with the three realms.

The Maiden is the time of exploration and initiation reflected by the follicular phase and the waxing of the Moon as it moves toward fullness. In the cycles of Nature, the Maiden is associated with dawn, sunrise and the Spring season. The Maiden Goddess rules the Sabbats of Imbolc and Ostara.

The Maiden is still finding herself and learning about the world around her, she is just starting out on her journey. She represents our connection to nature. She symbolizes curiosity, the unconscious, initiation, exploration, inquisition, innocence, purity, expansion, pleasure, playfulness, new beginnings, freedom, enchantment, self-confidence, the anticipation of life, becoming, fresh potential, excitement, a huntress following her own desires with a carefree aura and a virgin which does not mean physical virginity, but independence. Her color is white and Pink symbolic of innocence, newness and purity.

Maiden Goddesses: Artemis, Brigid, Diana, Flora, Freya, Ostara, Persephone, Rhiannon, Skuld.

The Mother is most associated with manifestation, expression and embodiment. She coincides with the part of the cycle that represents ripeness, fertility, sexuality and power — ovulation. She is associated with midday and her season is Summer, the most lush time of year, with forests, fields and crops flourishing. The Mother Goddess rules the Sabbats of Beltane, Litha and Lammas.

The Mother Goddess isn't rigid to childbearing but the source of creative, birth and nurture energies. A vibrant strong and active energy consciously channeled into creativity and procreation of all things earthly and universal.

She represents responsibility, abundance, fullness of life, nurture, love, life-giving, protection, deepening awareness, ripeness, fruition, sustenance, manifestation, creation, fertility, sexuality, nourishment, fulfillment, stability, womb wisdom and power. Her color is red for menstrual blood and the life-force that courses through us all.

Mother Goddesses; Aphrodite, Arianrhod, Ceres, Cybele, Danu, Demeter, Frigg, Gaia, Hathor, Hera, Isis, Juno, Macha, Rhea, Venus, Verdandi.

The Crone is the most feared and least understood archetype. As the moon wanes and the darkness of the night sky grows and as we enter the luteal phase, the Crone turns inward and steps into her power. She is associated with Autumn and Winter, sunset and night, and the winding down and ending of the growing season. The Crone rules the Sabbat of Samhain and Yule.

She has been called the the Dark Mother, the Hag and the Wise One. Crone is derived from the word for crown, her wisdom emanates like a halo. She is the destroyer and underworld Goddess of death and decay. She is the gateway to death and re-birth and the key to unlocking deep mysteries. The Crone is the wisdom keeper, seer, great sorceress and healer whose knowledge is sought out to guide others. The Crone has moved beyond sensuality or sexuality into full connectedness with the spiritual nature of sexual energy.

She represents sexual mastery, the abyss, prophecy, magic, transformation, transmutation, destruction and creation, mystery of death, surrender to darkness, endings, visions, past lives, guidance, wisdom, inner knowing, acceptance, fearlessness, the underworld, shadow and culmination of a lifetime of experience and knowledge. Her color is black – the absorber of all light and where all life rests before rebirth.
